चित्रकूट धाम एक भव्य पवित्र स्थान है जहाँ पाँच गाँवों का संगम है, जहाँ भगवान राम, सीता और लक्ष्मण अपने वनवास के दौरान रुके थे।

यह स्थान कर्वी, सीतापुर, कामता, कोहनी, नयागांव जैसे गांवों का संगम है।

चित्रकूट को भारत के प्रमुख तीर्थस्थलों में से एक माना जाता है। लोगों के बीच यह माना जाता है कि भगवान श्री राम, देवी सीता और छोटे भाई लक्ष्मण के साथ चित्रकूट के घने जंगलों में अपने वनवास के दौरान रुके थे। बहते झरने, घने जंगल, चहकते पक्षी, बहती नदियाँ यहाँ के सुन्दर प्राकृतिक पर्वत पर इस स्थान पर स्थित हैं। भक्तों का मानना ​​है कि कामदगिरी एक भव्य धार्मिक स्थान है जहां भगवान राम रहते थे। इसी स्थान पर भरत मिलाप मंदिर भी स्थित है, जहां भरत ने श्रीराम से अयोध्या लौटने को कहा था।



यहां भक्त इस विश्वास के साथ परिक्रमा करते हैं कि भगवान राम उनकी भक्ति से प्रसन्न होंगे और उनकी मनोकामनाएं पूरी करेंगे। भगवान श्री राम के भाई भरत ने इस स्थान पर पवित्र जल का एक कुंड बनाया था, जहां परदेस के विभिन्न तीर्थ स्थानों से पवित्र जल संग्रहीत किया जाता है। यह स्थान एक बहुत छोटा स्थान है जो इस शहर से कुछ दूरी पर स्थित है। यह यहां के रामघाट पर स्थित एक भव्य स्थान है। कहा जाता है कि सीता इसी नदी में स्नान करती थीं। यहां की हरियाली भी नजर आती है। यह शांत और खूबसूरत जगह वास्तव में प्रकृति की अनमोल देन है।


नदियों की धाराएँ आकाश को सुनहरे नीले रंग की तरह बनाती हैं। मानो नीला घूंघट पहना हो। रामघाट से 2 किमी की दूरी पर स्थित जानकी कुंड तक पहुंचने के लिए दो रास्ते हैं। यहां आप सड़क मार्ग से भी जा सकते हैं या रामघाट से नाव से भी पहुंच सकते हैं। चित्रकूट हिंदुओं की आस्था का केंद्र है। यह वही स्थान है जहां मर्यादा पुरुषोत्तम श्री राम ने एक बार देवी सीता और लक्ष्मण के साथ अपने वनवास के साढ़े ग्यारह वर्ष बिताए थे। दरअसल, चित्रकूट-चित्रकूट शब्दों के मेल से बना है।

संस्कृत में चित्र का अर्थ है अशोक और कूट का अर्थ है शिखर या शिखर। इस संबंध में एक कहावत है कि चूंकि इस वन क्षेत्र में कभी अशोक के पेड़ बहुतायत में पाए जाते थे, इसलिए इसका नाम चित्रकूट पड़ा। भगवान श्री राम के स्थल चित्रकूट के महत्व का वर्णन संत तुलसीदास, वेद व्यास, आदिकवि कालिदास आदि ने अपनी कृतियों में किया है। मंदाकिनी नदी के तट पर स्थित यह चित्रकूट धाम प्राचीन काल से हमारे देश का सबसे प्रसिद्ध धार्मिक सांस्कृतिक स्थल रहा है, आज भी चित्रकूट की चरणबद्ध भूमि राम, लक्ष्मण और सीता के चरणों से चिह्नित है।
